The story

A little history.

Guman Chand Patwa, a wealthy trader in brocade and jewellery, began the first haveli in 1805 and built one for each of his five sons. The work took around 50 years to complete.

The facades are covered in carved balconies, jharokhas and screens so fine they look like lace. One of the havelis is now a museum showing how a merchant family lived, with painted rooms and original furnishings.
