About Sariska
Sariska was once the hunting ground of the rulers of Alwar. It became a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and a tiger reserve under Project Tiger in 1978.
By 2005 its tigers had been lost to poaching. In 2008 Sariska became the first reserve in India to bring tigers back by moving them from Ranthambore, and the population has grown again since.
Besides tigers, the forest is home to leopards, sambar, nilgai, jungle cats and many birds, among temples, forts and abandoned villages.
