The story

A little history.

When Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II moved his capital from Amber to the plains in 1727, he placed his palace at the centre of the new planned city. Later rulers added courtyards, gardens and pavilions over two centuries.

Part of the complex is a museum, while the seven-storey Chandra Mahal is still the residence of the former royal family. The palace blends Rajput, Mughal and European touches.
